About Midnight

Every song on this album has earned its place by possessing two key attributes: a great melody, and a great feel. The songs on Midnight will have you humming, then tapping your feet and, no doubt, reaching for your dancing shoes.

Taking influence from some of the coolest jazz legends and fiendishly hot pop songwriters, this, The Songmen's first studio album, pays a loving tribute to some of recent history's truly great songwriters. It dips into the Great American Songbook and then reaches into some classic jazz standards before surging forwards into some classic pop songs.

So join us on a musical journey starting in a dingy New Orleans Jail where you'll meet the incarcerated but magical street performer Mr Bojangles. Come with us through a 1930s New York on our way to Harlem with Strayhorn's Take The 'A' Train. Speed down Route 66, from LA to Chicago, in Sade's Smooth Operator and visit the smoky clubs of the East Side with Thelonious Monk's Round Midnight before revelling with us in the hazy beauty of Art Garfunkel's haunting Bright Eyes.

All of the tracks on this album are originally arranged by Ben, Guy and Rob, members of the group, and offer unique and original takes on some of the best songs ever written, known and loved by millions. In a final nod to the album's American influences it was mixed and produced by Grammy Award winning Bill Hare out in San Francisco. You didn't think an album as heavily influenced by the American greats like this could end up anywhere else though, right?

So, put on your tap dancing shoes, give Sammy Davis Junior a call, hail a cab and venture out into the into the night. Who knows where you might end up!
